Martin Nečas

Martin Nečas is a Czech centre/winger known for his speed and skill, developing into a top scorer for the Carolina Hurricanes before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche.

Martin Nečas was born on 15 January 1999 in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic, the son of a hockey coach, and made his professional debut with HC Kometa Brno in 2016, helping the club win the Czech Extraliga championship as a highly touted teenage prospect. The Carolina Hurricanes selected Nečas 12th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, and he developed into one of the league's most dynamic and speedy forwards, recording the most assists and points at the 2018 World Junior Championship as one of the tournament's top players. Nečas's best NHL season came in 2022-23, when he recorded 28 goals and 43 assists for Carolina, finishing his time with the Hurricanes with 113 goals and 185 assists across 411 regular-season games. Nečas was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in a three-team deal on 24 January 2025, and has continued to represent the Czech Republic internationally, remaining one of the most highly regarded offensive forwards of his generation, renowned for his exceptional skating speed and playmaking vision.

Nečas is known for his exceptional speed and agility on the ice, making him a constant threat in transition. He possesses strong puck-handling skills and vision, allowing him to create scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates.
