Marcelo Brozović was born on 16 November 1992 in Zagreb, Croatia, and graduated from the youth ranks of local club Hrvatski Dragovoljac, making his professional debut for the side in 2010 before the club was relegated the following year. He moved to Lokomotiva Zagreb and then, in 2012, to Dinamo Zagreb, where his combination of tactical intelligence, passing range, and box-to-box energy in central midfield quickly marked him out as one of Croatia's most promising young players. Inter Milan signed Brozović in 2015, initially on loan before making the deal permanent, and he went on to spend eight seasons as the metronome of Inter's midfield, evolving into one of the most complete deep-lying playmakers in Serie A. He captained Inter to their first Serie A title in over a decade in 2021, and played a key role in the club reaching two major European finals — the 2020 Europa League final and the 2023 Champions League final. Brozović earned over 100 caps for Croatia and was an integral part of the country's remarkable run to the 2018 World Cup final, the sport's biggest match, in which Croatia finished runners-up to France. He represented his country at three World Cups in total, in 2014, 2018, and 2022, helping Croatia reach the semi-finals in Qatar and famously covering more distance than any player in a single match during the marathon 2018 semi-final against England.
