Makhaya Ntini was born on 6 July 1977 in Mdingi, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He became the first Black African-born player to represent South Africa in Test cricket, making his debut in 1998. He was also the first Black cricketer to take 5 wickets in a Test innings for South Africa. Ntini took 390 Test wickets in 101 Tests at 28.82 and was a tireless, high-action fast bowler with exceptional stamina. His significance went far beyond cricket — he symbolised the transformation of South African sport in the post-apartheid era.
