Letsile Tebogo was born on 7 June 2003 in Kanye, Botswana, and gained his first international experience at the 2021 World Athletics Relays at just 17, before drawing global attention with a series of record-breaking junior performances. Tebogo shocked the athletics world in 2022, setting the world under-20 100m record at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, celebrating with 30 metres still to run, a moment that drew comparisons to a young Usain Bolt, who himself praised the performance on social media. Tebogo became the first Botswana athlete to win a 100m title at any World Championships level in 2021, and the youngest-ever winner of the African 200m title in 2022, before delivering Botswana's first-ever Olympic gold medal in athletics, winning the 200m at the 2024 Paris Games. Tebogo has continued to compete at the top level of world sprinting, setting national records in both the 100m and 200m in Paris, and remains one of the most talented and closely watched young sprinters to emerge from the African continent.
