Ken Owens is a Welsh hooker who captained his country and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2017.

Kenneth James "Ken" Owens was born on 3 January 1987 in Carmarthen, Wales, the son of Delme Owens, a former second-row for Carmarthen Athletic RFC. As a child, Owens was part of the local youth opera, even playing a leper in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar — an early stage experience he later credited with helping his social skills and comfort speaking to people. Owens joined the Scarlets in 2006, taking over as the region's first-choice hooker in 2013, and developed into one of the most respected forwards in Welsh rugby, earning the nickname "The Sheriff" from teammate Dwayne Peel in tribute to Owens's grandparents, who had both served as mayors and sheriffs of Carmarthen. Owens made his Wales debut against Namibia at the 2011 World Cup, and became the country's first-choice hooker from 2016, playing at three World Cups in total and winning four Six Nations titles, including Grand Slams in 2012 and 2019. He was selected for the British and Irish Lions in both 2017 and 2021. Owens was named Wales captain for the 2023 Six Nations Championship following almost a year out with a back injury, capping a career built on loyalty to his home region and consistent excellence at the highest level of Welsh and international rugby.
