Kayla Renae McBride was born on 25 June 1992 in Erie, Pennsylvania, to LaMont and LuAnn McBride, one of four siblings including brother Aaron and sisters Karlee and Jayden, both of whom also played Division I college basketball. She starred at Villa Maria Academy, helping the team to two Pennsylvania state titles, before playing at the University of Notre Dame. McBride helped lead Notre Dame to four consecutive Final Fours and three national championship game appearances, finishing her college career with 1,876 points, among the highest totals in program history, and earning first-team All-American honours as a senior in 2014. The San Antonio Stars selected McBride third overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft, and she developed into one of the league's most reliable perimeter scorers, earning multiple All-Star selections while also building an extensive overseas career in Turkey and Russia, including a long association with Fenerbahçe. McBride joined the Minnesota Lynx in 2021, and set a WNBA record in August 2026 by making ten three-pointers in a single game against the Dallas Wings, moving atop the league's single-game scoring leaderboard ahead of fellow Notre Dame alumnae, continuing to be one of the league's most prolific and consistent shooters well into her thirteenth professional season.
