Katrina Rore

New Zealand defender and former Silver Ferns captain who won the 2019 Netball World Cup and played more than 100 Tests.

Katrina Rore made her Silver Ferns debut in 2008 at 21 and went on to become one of New Zealand's most durable defenders, eventually retiring as the fourth most-capped Silver Fern in history with 137 Test appearances across three World Cups and three Commonwealth Games. She became the Silver Ferns' 26th captain in 2017, a tenure that came under pressure when the team left the 2018 Commonwealth Games without a medal, and she was subsequently dropped from the squad at the end of that year. Rore's response became one of New Zealand netball's great comeback stories: in a single stretch of 2019 she captained Central Pulse to their first-ever ANZ Premiership title, earned a recall to the Silver Ferns and helped them win the Netball World Cup for the first time in 16 years, and then won the Australian domestic title with the NSW Swifts — a unique treble of first-time achievements. She had first won Commonwealth Games gold with New Zealand in Delhi in 2010. Rore retired from international netball in 2022, though she briefly came out of retirement in 2026 to provide short-term injury cover for the NSW Swifts in Australia's Super Netball league.
