Katie Taylor

Katie Taylor is an Irish professional boxer and 2012 Olympic gold medalist who became the first undisputed female lightweight champion and later a two-weight undisputed champion.

Katie Taylor was born on 2 July 1986 in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, to an Irish mother, Bridget, and English-born father, Pete Taylor, himself a former Irish senior light heavyweight boxing champion who became her full-time coach. Before focusing on boxing, Taylor represented the Republic of Ireland at international level in women's football. Taylor developed into the most successful amateur female boxer in history, winning multiple World and European Championship titles before claiming Olympic gold in the lightweight division at the London 2012 Games, becoming one of the most celebrated athletes in modern Irish sporting history. Taylor turned professional in 2016 and continued her dominance, becoming undisputed lightweight world champion and adding titles at light welterweight, developing one of the most storied rivalries in women's boxing with Amanda Serrano across a trilogy of fights that helped elevate the profile and pay structures of women's professional boxing. Taylor suffered the first loss of her professional career to Chantelle Cameron in Dublin in 2023, before avenging the defeat in a May 2023 rematch to reclaim the undisputed championship. Nicknamed "The Bray Bomber," she remains one of the most decorated and commercially significant fighters in the history of women's boxing.
