Juan Pablo Montoya Roldán was born on 20 September 1975 in Bogotá, Colombia, and was introduced to karting from an early age by his father, Pablo, an architect and passionate motorsport enthusiast. He progressed through Colombian and international karting before moving to Europe, winning the British Formula Three and International Formula 3000 championships. Montoya moved to North American open-wheel racing in 1999, winning the CART championship in his rookie season and the Indianapolis 500 in 2000, before joining Williams in Formula One in 2001, winning his first Grand Prix at Monza that year. Montoya spent six seasons in Formula One with Williams and McLaren, winning seven Grands Prix and 13 pole positions, renowned for his aggressive, wheel-to-wheel racing style, before leaving the sport in 2006 to pursue a career in NASCAR. Montoya later returned to open-wheel racing, winning a second Indianapolis 500 in 2015, and became one of only three drivers in history, alongside Mario Andretti and Dan Gurney, to win races in IndyCar, Formula One, and NASCAR's Cup Series, closing out a rare and versatile career spanning multiple disciplines of motorsport across more than two decades.
