Jodi Brown (née Te Huna) was born on 6 May 1981 in Whanganui, New Zealand, and made her Silver Ferns debut in 2003 at 22, going straight into the squad that won that year's World Championship in Jamaica. An accurate, versatile shooter able to play both goal attack and goal shooter, she went on to have one of the most unusual careers in Silver Ferns history, twice stepping away from the international game to start a family before returning to elite level. Brown won 61 Test caps across a 12-year international career, taking World Cup silver in both 2007 and 2015 to go with her 2003 gold, and adding a Commonwealth Games silver at Glasgow 2014 after missing the 2006 Melbourne Games through injury and the 2010 Delhi Games for family reasons. She stepped away from the Silver Ferns in 2007 to have her first two children before an acclaimed comeback from 2012 onward, ultimately retiring from international netball in 2015 as part of the team's senior leadership group. She played 13 seasons of elite domestic netball across six New Zealand franchises, was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to the sport, and later worked in athlete drug education for Drug Free Sport New Zealand.
