Jewell Loyd was born on 5 October 1993 in Lincolnwood, Illinois, and attended Niles West High School in Skokie before starring at the University of Notre Dame, where she was named ACC Player of the Year in 2015 and won multiple All-American honours. The Seattle Storm selected Loyd first overall in the 2015 WNBA Draft, and she won Rookie of the Year that season, developing into one of the league's most explosive scoring guards, nicknamed the "Gold Mamba" for her competitive mentality inspired by Kobe Bryant. Loyd helped the Seattle Storm win WNBA championships in both 2018 and 2020, and led the league in scoring in 2023, earning WNBA All-Star Game MVP honours that same season. She built an extensive overseas career across Turkey, South Korea, China, and Spain during WNBA offseasons. Loyd was traded to the Las Vegas Aces in 2025, winning a third WNBA championship that season, and continues to be one of the league's most prolific scorers, having also competed for the Chicago-area Mist BC in the Unrivaled 3x3 league.
