His athletic prowess led him to the University of Tennessee, where he played for the Volunteers and developed into a versatile tight end capable of both receiving and blocking. The Dallas Cowboys selected Witten in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, where he quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the franchise.
