Hicham El Guerrouj fell to the track in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic 1500m final while leading with the finish in sight, placed last, and then won 61 of his next 64 races over 1500m or the mile across the following five years.. He was named World Athlete of the Year three times, remains the current world record holder in both the 1500m and mile, and was inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame in 2014.
