Hashim Amla was born on 31 March 1983 in Durban, South Africa. He turned professional in 2002 and became South Africa's highest Test run-scorer with 9,282 runs in 124 Tests at an average of 46.64. Known for his immaculate technique, upright stance and prolific run-making, Amla scored 28 Test centuries. He was the first South African to score a Test triple century (311* against England at The Oval in 2012) and the first player to score 7,000 runs without being dismissed for a duck on multiple occasions. A devout Muslim, he has been an inspiration both on and off the field.
