Gervonta Kenyan Davis was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1994, growing up in difficult circumstances — he spent time in foster care before boxing became the central structure of his life. Floyd Mayweather's Mayweather Promotions signed him and effectively managed his early professional career. He won his first world title at super featherweight in 2017 by stopping José Pedraza in round seven. His knockout rate — 28 knockouts from 30 wins — is among the highest in professional boxing across any weight class. His left hook is considered the most powerful punch in the lighter divisions. He stopped Léo Santa Cruz, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, Rolly Romero, Gervonta Davis Pitbull Cruz and Hector Luis Garcia in title fights. He and Ryan Garcia fought in April 2023 in the most watched boxing event of that year — Garcia winning a knockout but later being disqualified. Davis was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Baltimore in 2020 — he pled guilty and received probation. He is unbeaten at 30 fights and the consensus best fighter in the super featherweight-to-lightweight range.
