Colin Ray Jackson was born on 18 February 1967 in Cardiff, Wales, and took his first Welsh 110m hurdles title at just 17 in 1984, going on to become one of the finest hurdlers the sport has ever produced. Jackson won silver at the 1988 Seoul Olympics behind American Roger Kingdom, and delivered the defining performance of his career at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, setting a world record of 12.91 seconds that stood as the championship record for over a decade. Jackson compiled an extraordinary streak of 44 consecutive victories between 1993 and 1995, and also set the world indoor 60m hurdles record of 7.30 seconds, becoming the only hurdler in history to run under 13 seconds three times in a single season. Jackson competed at four Olympic Games, the only Welsh athlete to do so, and was appointed CBE for his services to athletics. He has since built an extensive career as a British sports broadcaster and television personality, remaining widely regarded as one of the greatest hurdlers never to win Olympic gold.
