Breanna Stewart was born on 27 August 1994 in Syracuse, New York, to a single mother, Heather Baldwin, who worked multiple jobs to support them after Stewart's biological father was not involved in her life. When Stewart was a toddler, her mother began dating Brian Stewart, who later married Heather and adopted Breanna, giving her a younger half-brother, Connor. Stewart starred at Cicero-North Syracuse High School before playing at the University of Connecticut, where she won an unprecedented four consecutive national championships from 2013 to 2016, becoming the only player in NCAA history to be named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player all four times. The Seattle Storm selected Stewart first overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft, and she developed into one of the greatest players in the sport's history, winning WNBA championships with Seattle in both 2018 and 2020, earning regular-season and Finals MVP honours along the way. Stewart was traded to the New York Liberty in 2023, winning a third WNBA championship in 2024, and built an extensive overseas career across China, Russia, and Turkey.
