Bianca Chatfield

A defender who captained the Melbourne Vixens for eight seasons and won World Championship gold and Commonwealth Games gold with Australia.

Bianca Chatfield was born on 2 April 1982 in Somerville on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. She made her debut for Melbourne Phoenix aged 16 and went on to make 133 appearances for the club between 1998 and 2007, winning four premierships, before making her senior Australian debut against England in March 2001 aged 18. Chatfield earned 59 caps for Australia between 2001 and 2014, winning gold at the 2007 World Netball Championships in New Zealand, silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as joint vice-captain, having briefly been dropped from the squad in 2010. She was a co-captain of the Australian FastNet Diamonds at the 2011 World Netball Series in Liverpool, where the team won bronze. Domestically, Chatfield moved to the newly formed Melbourne Vixens for the ANZ Championship's launch in 2008, captaining the club for eight seasons and winning titles in 2009 and 2014, becoming the first Vixens player to reach 100 appearances. She retired from netball at the end of the 2015 season having played over 240 national league matches and won six premierships in total. Since retiring, Chatfield has built a career in Australian sports media, working as a Suncorp Super Netball commentator for Channel Nine and later Fox Sports, and appeared as a contestant on the renovation show The Block in 2018.
