Bethany Jane Mead was born on 9 May 1995 in Hinderwell, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, England, and spent six years in Middlesbrough's centre of excellence before joining Sunderland at 16. She scored an extraordinary 77 goals in 78 games for the club, becoming the FA Women's Super League's top scorer in 2015 at just 20 years old, all before earning a senior England call-up. Mead joined Arsenal in 2017, developing into one of the most creative and clinical forwards in the women's game, and has since become the WSL's all-time leading assist provider and one of its most prolific goal contributors. Her partnership with teammates in Arsenal's attack helped drive the club's continued success domestically and in Europe. Mead's career-defining tournament came at UEFA Women's Euro 2022, hosted on home soil, where she won the Golden Boot as top scorer, was named Player of the Tournament, and topped the assist charts as England won the country's first-ever major women's football title.
