Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pittsburgh's greatest modern quarterback.
Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger was born in Lima, Ohio in 1982. Pittsburgh Steelers selected him 11th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. His 18-season career — spent entirely with the Steelers — produced 64,088 passing yards, 418 touchdowns and two Super Bowl championships (Super Bowl XL after the 2005 season and Super Bowl XLIII after the 2008 season). He became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl when he won Super Bowl XL aged 23. He was selected to six Pro Bowls. He is the Pittsburgh Steelers' all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and completions by a significant margin. His physical style — using his 6ft 5in, 240-pound frame to escape pressure and extend plays — made him virtually impossible to sack cleanly for most of his career. His 2008 Super Bowl victory — throwing the decisive touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIII — produced one of the most celebrated plays in Super Bowl history. He overcame a severe motorcycle accident in 2006 and multiple injury-shortened seasons to maintain consistent performance across 18 seasons. He retired following the 2021 season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
