Bailey Mes was born on 27 May 1989 in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Onehunga High School before beginning her senior domestic career with the Northern Mystics in 2010, where she would spend the majority of her playing days across two separate stints. Mes developed into one of New Zealand's most versatile attacking players, capable of playing goal shoot, goal attack, and wing attack, and was selected into New Zealand's senior international setup in 2012, going on to represent the Silver Ferns for over a decade. Mes endured a difficult period after being dropped from the Silver Ferns squad following heavy defeats at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, an experience she has said temporarily took the joy out of playing, though she continued competing for the Mystics in the ANZ Premiership rather than leave the club without cover. Mes announced her retirement from both international and domestic netball on 18 May 2023, following the conclusion of that year's ANZ Premiership finals, citing ongoing injuries as the primary reason. She had moved to the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic for her final playing seasons, and has since built a career at Sky TV in New Zealand alongside her post-playing life.
