April Brandley (née Letton) was born on 19 April 1990 and began her elite netball career in 2011 as a replacement player for the Queensland Firebirds before establishing herself across stints with the NSW Swifts, West Coast Fever and Collingwood Magpies. A tall, athletic defender at goal keeper, goal defence and wing defence, she made her Australian Diamonds debut in 2013. Brandley represented Australia at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, taking silver, and started at the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool, where Australia narrowly lost a dramatic final to England 52–51 — one of the most celebrated results in England netball history. She stepped away from the game later that year to start a family, returning in 2020 to join Giants Netball, where she played a further four seasons, was named the club's Players' Player in 2021, and helped the franchise to a Grand Final appearance before retiring in 2023 after 95 domestic matches and 39 Test caps.
