Ángel Martín Correa Martínez was born on 9 March 1995 in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina — the same city that produced Lionel Messi — and grew up playing barefoot on dusty pitches before joining the youth ranks of San Lorenzo. His agility and fearless attacking style saw him break into the first team at just 17, and he played a key role in San Lorenzo's Under-20 Copa Libertadores triumph in 2013. Atlético Madrid signed Correa in 2014, though his move to Spain was delayed after a heart condition was discovered that required surgery before he could begin his career in Europe.
