Alun Wyn Jones is a Welsh lock and former Wales/Lions captain who became the most-capped player in international rugby history.
Alun Wyn Jones was born in Swansea, Wales, in 1985, and began his rugby career with Bonymaen RFC before representing Wales at under-21 level and making his full international debut on tour in Argentina in 2006. Originally deployed as a blindside flanker, he transitioned to lock, the position in which he would go on to define an era of Welsh rugby. Jones played a starring role in Wales's 2008 Six Nations Grand Slam, and was named captain of the Ospreys in 2010, the same year he completed a law degree studied part-time at Swansea University. He went on to captain Wales itself, becoming the 126th player to hold the role, and led the national side through some of its most successful periods of the professional era. Jones captained the British and Irish Lions to a series victory in Australia in 2013, and became the world's most-capped lock forward and Wales's most-capped international player in history, a testament to remarkable durability across nearly two decades at the top level. He won three Six Nations Grand Slams with Wales, joining an elite group of Welsh players including Gareth Edwards and JPR Williams to achieve the feat. Jones was named the best player of the 2019 Six Nations Championship and was a shortlisted finalist for World Rugby Player of the Year that same year. He received an honorary degree from Swansea University in 2014, and remains one of the most respected leaders and longest-serving players in the history of international rugby.
