One of the most elegant defenders in football history, whose grace and reading of the game defined AC Milan's Champions League-winning era.
Alessandro Nesta was born in Rome, Italy on 19 March 1976. He came through Lazio's academy and became their captain, winning the Serie A title in 2000, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. He joined AC Milan in 2002 for €30 million and formed one of the greatest defensive partnerships in history with Paolo Maldini. He won two Champions Leagues (2003, 2007), a Serie A title, and multiple trophies. His elegance, timing of tackles, positioning and composure were unmatched. He earned 78 caps for Italy and won the 2006 World Cup, though injury prevented him from playing in the final. He later played in MLS for Montreal Impact.
