Yulimar Rojas Rodríguez was born in Caracas, Venezuela, into a low-income family of six siblings, and was initially drawn to volleyball, inspired by watching Venezuela's national team compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, before transitioning to track and field. Rojas won high jump gold at the 2011 South American Junior Championships at just 15, and moved to Guadalajara, Spain, in 2015 to train under coach Iván Pedroso, developing into the dominant force in women's triple jump. Rojas, nicknamed "la reina del triple salto" (the queen of the triple jump), won the Olympic title at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, and became a four-time world champion outdoors, winning titles in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023, along with three world indoor titles. Rojas holds the world record in the triple jump and has been awarded Venezuela's Order of José Félix Ribas, First Class, remaining one of the most dominant and record-breaking field event athletes in the sport's modern history.
