Boston College's explosive scorer — led the Big East in scoring as a sophomore before the NBA.
Troyd Jonathan Bell was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1982. He attended Boston College and in two full seasons averaged 21.0 points per game, leading the Big East in scoring as a sophomore. He was an All-Big East player and the conference's most dangerous scoring guard outside of the major programme players. His combination of three-point range, driving ability and composure in conference play made him one of the more polished scorers in the country by his junior year. Memphis Grizzlies selected him 16th overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. His professional career was limited by injuries and never fulfilled the promise of his college years — an increasingly common pattern for players who were superb in college environments but couldn't sustain that in the professional game. His Boston College career — leading a programme that was not traditionally a major scoring powerhouse to Big East prominence — required individual excellence to carry the team rather than working within a system built around stars. That individual burden developed the scoring resilience that made him an attractive draft prospect.
