Trea Vance Turner was born on June 30, 1993, in Boynton Beach, Florida, and attended Park Vista Community High School in nearby Lake Worth, drawing modest recruiting interest before earning a scholarship to North Carolina State University. He led all of Division I college baseball with 55 stolen bases as a freshman, showcasing the elite speed that would define his professional career. The San Diego Padres drafted Turner in 2014, but he was traded to the Washington Nationals before making his MLB debut in 2015. He developed into one of the game's most dynamic shortstops, combining speed, contact hitting, and increasing power, and helped the Nationals win the franchise's first World Series championship in 2019. Turner was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2021 season, and won the National League batting title that year with a .328 average. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent in 2023, and set an MLB record that same year by stealing 30 bases without being caught even once — a mark of near-perfect efficiency on the basepaths. Turner has earned three All-Star selections and a second batting title in 2025, and represented the United States at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, continuing to be regarded as one of the most complete and electrifying middle infielders in the sport.
