Susan Pratley

Australian goal attack/shooter who represented the Diamonds and won the 2011 World Championship.

Susan Leanne Pettitt, née Pratley, was born on 23 March 1984 in Canberra, Australia, and grew up near Bega on the New South Wales far south coast, an area that would later name a grandstand in her honour, the "Susan Pratley Stand" in Bega, in recognition of the region's first netball world champion. She attended Bega High School before studying at the University of Sydney. Pratley was identified by selectors in her early teens and progressed rapidly through representative ranks, earning both AIS and NSWIS scholarships before making her senior domestic debut with the Sydney Sandpipers in 2002. She went on to play for the Sydney Swifts during their Commonwealth Bank Trophy premiership season, forming a productive partnership with fellow Australian international Catherine Cox. Pratley became a key shooting option for the New South Wales Swifts across a decade with the franchise from 2008 to 2016, before finishing her career with Giants Netball, and represented Australia at senior level from 2006 to 2018 after progressing through the Under-21 ranks. Pratley, who married Brad Pettitt in 2014, remains one of the most celebrated netballers to emerge from regional New South Wales, her journey from the small coastal community of Quaama to world championship success making her a source of enduring local pride.
