Spencer Strider is a Braves right-hander known for one of the highest strikeout rates in MLB history among starters.

Spencer Robert Strider was born on October 28, 1998, in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, as a fan of the Cleveland Indians, attending the Christian Academy of Knoxville. He initially committed to play college baseball at Ohio University and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2017 draft, but instead enrolled at Clemson University, where he majored in political science. Strider battled through Tommy John surgery during his college career, using the recovery period, by his own account, as motivation to separate himself from other prospects rather than as a setback. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, and he rocketed through the minor leagues before debuting in 2021. Strider quickly developed a reputation as one of the hardest-throwing starting pitchers in baseball, renowned for an overpowering fastball-slider combination that generated exceptionally high strikeout rates. He led all of Major League Baseball in both wins and strikeouts in 2023, earning his first All-Star selection and All-MLB First Team honours that season. Strider has continued to develop into one of the National League's most dominant strikeout pitchers for the Atlanta Braves, working back from further injury setbacks to remain one of the most electric arms in the sport.
