Sofiane Feghouli was born on 26 December 1989 in Levallois-Perret, France, to Algerian parents — his father from Tiaret and his mother from Ghazaouet — and was rejected by Paris Saint-Germain after a trial before joining Grenoble's academy. He made his professional debut for the club in 2007 at just 17, before a serious knee injury and a contentious contract dispute led to his high-profile departure to Spain. Feghouli signed for Valencia in 2010, spending six seasons in La Liga and developing into one of the most creative wide players in Spanish football, more renowned for his ability to create chances than to score them himself. Despite representing France at youth level, he chose to switch his international allegiance to Algeria, the country of his parents' birth, making his senior debut in 2012. Feghouli moved to West Ham United in 2016, though a red card on his Premier League debut proved an inauspicious start, before a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2017 brought greater stability and success, including domestic championships in Turkey.
