Shintaro Mochizuki is a Japanese tennis player who became the first Japanese man in history to win a Grand Slam boys' singles title, taking the 2019 Wimbledon junior crown before breaking into the ATP top 100.
By winning the 2019 Wimbledon boys' singles title, Shintaro Mochizuki became the first Japanese man in history to win a Grand Slam boys' singles crown, reaching a World No. 1 junior ranking that same month and establishing himself as the most significant Japanese tennis prospect since Kei Nishikori. He built a standout junior career, finishing with a 119-45 record on the ITF Junior Circuit and reaching the World No. 1 junior ranking in July 2019. Mochizuki made history that year at Wimbledon, becoming the first Japanese man ever to win a Grand Slam boys' singles title, defeating Carlos Gimeno Valero in the final after saving a match point in the semifinal. He made his ATP Tour debut as a wildcard at the 2021 Singapore event and his Grand Slam main-draw debut as a qualifier at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. Mochizuki broke through at the 2023 Tokyo Open, recording his first ATP Tour win and reaching his first career semifinal after a notable victory over then-World No. 10 Taylor Fritz. He continued to build his ranking through Grand Slam qualifying runs and Challenger Tour titles, reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 92 in November 2025, and made his best Grand Slam showing to date at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, advancing to the fourth round. As of the mid-2020s, he remains Japan's second-ranked men's player behind Kei Nishikori's successor generation.
