Shim Suk-hee is a South Korean short track speed skater and three-time Olympic champion in the 3,000m relay, whose international career began with a spectacular double gold at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 3,000-meter relay — at Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018, and Milan-Cortina 2026 — anchor a career that spans nine World Championship golds and more than 30 global medals, establishing Shim Suk-hee as one of the most consistently decorated short track skaters of her generation. She made her first major international appearance at the 2011 World Junior Championships at just 14, and announced herself on the global stage the following year at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, winning gold in both individual events on the programme, the 500m and 1000m. Shim made her senior Olympic debut at the 2014 Sochi Games, winning gold as part of South Korea's 3,000m relay team in a dramatic final against China, and adding an individual silver in the 1500m and bronze in the 1000m. She defended the relay title on home soil at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, helping the South Korean team retain the event after a teammate's fall earlier in the competition forced her and Choi Min-jeong to carry the squad through to the final. Shim continued her international success with nine World Championship gold medals across her career, including the 2014 title, and extended her Olympic relay dominance to a third consecutive gold at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. Across Olympic, World Championship, Asian Games, and junior competition, she has amassed more than 30 global medals, establishing herself as one of the most successful short track speed skaters of her generation.
