Duke's most complete player — four-time All-American who won everything the college game could offer.

Shane Battier was born in Birmingham, Michigan in 1978. He attended Duke University under coach Mike Krzyzewski and won the national championship in 2001, being named both the national player of the year (Naismith Award and Wooden Award) and the tournament's Most Outstanding Player — one of the most comprehensively decorated individual seasons in college basketball history. He was a four-time All-American — a remarkable achievement that very few players in any era have matched. He averaged 17.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game across four seasons. He was also the national defensive player of the year. Memphis Grizzlies selected him sixth overall in the 2001 NBA Draft. His professional career produced solid defensive contributions on multiple winning teams, including NBA championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. His Duke career — four All-American selections, one championship and the triple crown of major national player of the year awards — is the most completely decorated individual career in the program's history.
