Satou Sabally

Versatile German forward whose NBA-level brand appeal, elite scoring and global platform have made her one of the most marketable players in women's basketball.

Isatou "Satou" Sabally was born on 25 April 1998, and began her basketball career playing in Germany's second division before progressing to the top-flight 1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga. She moved to the United States in 2017 to play college basketball at the University of Oregon, retaining her NCAA eligibility. Sabally spent three seasons with the Ducks, helping the team win three regular-season and two tournament Pac-12 championships and reach the program's first-ever Final Four in 2019, winning the Cheryl Miller Award as the nation's top small forward in 2020. The Dallas Wings selected Sabally second overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft, and she developed into one of the league's most versatile forwards, winning WNBA Most Improved Player in 2023 and earning All-WNBA First Team honours the same season, renowned by fans and media as a "unicorn" for her rare combination of scoring, rebounding, and perimeter defence across multiple positions. Sabally also won a EuroLeague championship and three Turkish Super League titles playing overseas, and was traded to the Phoenix Mercury in 2025 as part of a four-team deal, continuing to be one of the most complete and outspoken players in the WNBA, a proud advocate for greater recognition of the league's veteran talent.
