Sapsiree Taerattanachai is a Thai badminton player who, with partner Dechapol Puavaranukroh, became the first Thai pair to win a BWF World Championship title, in mixed doubles in 2021.
Sapsiree Taerattanachai, nicknamed 'Popor', was born on April 18, 1992, in Udon Thani province, Thailand, and began playing badminton with her family at age nine. She built a strong junior career, winning bronze at the 2009 World Junior Championships in girls' doubles, and represented Thailand in women's doubles alongside Puttita Supajirakul before shifting focus to mixed doubles with partner Dechapol Puavaranukroh. Taerattanachai and Puavaranukroh developed into one of the most dominant mixed doubles pairings in the world during the early 2020s, sweeping the 2020 Thailand-based Asian leg titles and the 2021 Bali leg titles to climb to World No. 1. Their signature achievement came at the 2021 World Championships in Huelva, Spain, where they defeated Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino to win gold, becoming the first-ever Thai pair to win a BWF World Championship title, having finished runner-up at the 2019 edition in Basel. Taerattanachai also won a bronze medal in women's doubles at the 2022 World Championships, partnering a different combination, and competed at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympic Games without winning a medal. A graduate of Chulalongkorn University, she has amassed over 600 career match wins and remains one of the most decorated doubles players in Thai badminton history, continuing to compete in mixed doubles with new partnerships into the mid-2020s.
