Roselee Joy Gwendoline Jencke was born around 1965 in Victoria, Australia, and attended Pakenham Secondary College before beginning her netball career with the Australian Institute of Sport in the early 1980s. She went on to play for Melbourne City and the Melbourne Pumas across the 1990s. Jencke represented Australia between 1985 and 1992, winning gold at the 1991 World Netball Championships and silver medals at the 1985 World Games and the 1987 World Netball Championships, and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1992 in recognition of her playing career. Jencke transitioned into coaching after retiring as a player, and took charge of the Queensland Firebirds in 2009, leading the franchise for over a decade until 2020. Under her guidance, the Firebirds reached five ANZ Championship grand finals between 2011 and 2016, winning three premierships in 2011, 2015, and 2016. Jencke's daughter, Macy Gardner, and her brother, Ray, have both remained connected to Australian sport, and Jencke herself is remembered as one of the most successful club coaches in the history of Australian domestic netball, having transformed the Firebirds into one of the league's most consistently competitive franchises.
