Peter Morgan Alonso was born on December 7, 1994, in Tampa, Florida, and attended Jesuit High School before transferring to Henry B. Plant High School to complete his education. The New York Mets drafted him in 2016, and he debuted in 2019, immediately setting the MLB rookie record for home runs in a season with 53, en route to a unanimous National League Rookie of the Year award. Nicknamed "Polar Bear" for his large frame and powerful, uppercut swing, Alonso became one of the most popular and prolific power hitters in Mets history, winning the Home Run Derby twice, in 2019 and 2021, and becoming the franchise's all-time home run leader.
