Patrick James Eddery was born in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland in 1952. He won eleven flat jockey championship titles in Britain. He rode 4,632 winners in Britain alone. He won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe four times. He was Vincent O'Brien's retained jockey — one of the most celebrated trainer-jockey partnerships in flat racing history. He won the Epsom Derby three times. He was awarded an OBE. He died in November 2015 aged 63 from a heart attack. He is considered one of the three finest flat jockeys in British racing history alongside Lester Piggott and Frankie Dettori.
