Nicolas Batum is a French basketball player and two-time Olympic silver medallist, one of the most decorated and durable players in French national team history.
Nicolas Batum appeared in more than 1,200 NBA regular-season games across 17 seasons and captained France to back-to-back Olympic silver medals at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, making him the most durably present French player in both competitions of his era — a career built more on consistency and availability than on any single defining season.. He began his professional career with Le Mans Sarthe at 17, and was named MVP of the 2006 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship as France won gold. Batum was drafted 25th overall by the Houston Rockets in 2008 and immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent seven seasons developing into a versatile three-and-D wing. He went on to play for the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers, building a reputation as one of the league's most reliable role players over more than 1,200 career NBA games. Internationally, Batum has been one of the most consistent contributors in French basketball history, debuting for the senior national team in 2008 and appearing in every major tournament for France from 2009 through 2024. He won EuroBasket gold in 2013, silver in 2011, and bronze in 2015, plus FIBA World Cup bronze medals in 2014 and 2019, before capping his international career with back-to-back Olympic silver medals at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, the latter as team captain, after which he retired from the national team. He continues to play in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers.
