American basketball point guard who became the only player in NBA history to lead the league in both scoring and assists in the same season (1972-73).

Nathaniel "Tiny" Archibald was born on 2 September 1948 in the South Bronx, New York City, and grew up in one of the city's toughest neighbourhoods, developing his game on the local playgrounds before attending DeWitt Clinton High School. He played college basketball at Arizona Western and the University of Texas at El Paso before the Cincinnati Royals selected him in the second round of the 1970 NBA Draft. Standing just 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 150 pounds, Archibald became one of the most improbable offensive forces in NBA history, and in the 1972-73 season with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings achieved a feat matched by no other player before or since: leading the league in both scoring, at 34 points per game, and assists, at 11.4 per game, in the same season. Archibald's career appeared to be winding down after a serious Achilles injury in 1977, but a trade to the Boston Celtics in 1978 revitalised him as a floor-general point guard rather than a primary scorer, and he helped the Celtics win the 1981 NBA championship, earning All-Star Game MVP honours that same season. Archibald retired in 1984 with over 16,000 career points and 6,400 assists, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. The Sacramento Kings retired his No. 1, and he was later named to the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams, remembered as one of the smallest players ever to dominate the league statistically.
