José Ignacio Fernández Iglesias, known as Nacho, was born on 18 January 1990 in Madrid, Spain, and joined Real Madrid's academy at just 10 years old in 2001, beginning an association with the club that would span 23 years. He rose through every level of the club's youth system, developing into a versatile defender capable of playing across the back line at centre-back, right-back, or left-back. Nacho made his first-team debut for Real Madrid on 23 April 2011 and went on to make 364 appearances for the club, becoming, alongside Luka Modrić, its most decorated player in history with 26 trophies. His finest individual moment came in a tense 2016 Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City, where he scored the decisive penalty in the shootout to send Real Madrid through. Over his 12 completed seasons in the first team, Nacho won a joint-record six Champions League titles — a mark shared with Paco Gento, Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos, and Dani Carvajal — reflecting the sustained European dominance of the Real Madrid teams he represented. His Real Madrid career ended in fitting fashion in 2024, lifting the European Cup as captain at Wembley to complete "La Decimoquinta," the club's 15th continental title.
