Marlon Samuels is a Jamaican former cricketer and the only player in history to be named Man of the Match in two ICC T20 World Cup finals, delivering match-winning innings for the West Indies in both 2012 and 2016.
The only player in history to be named Man of the Match in two separate ICC T20 World Cup finals, Marlon Samuels delivered match-winning performances in 2012 against Sri Lanka and in 2016 against England, the latter an unbeaten 85 that rescued West Indies from 11 for 2 chasing 162. He scored his maiden Test century, 104, against India in Kolkata in 2002-03. Samuels's career suffered a significant setback in 2008, when he was banned for two years by the West Indies Cricket Board for breaching the ICC's anti-corruption code. He returned to international cricket in 2011, and delivered a breakout tour of England in 2012, scoring 386 runs in five innings, before adding his first Test double century, 260, against Bangladesh that same year. Samuels became a fixture of the West Indies' white-ball success in the 2010s, scoring an unbeaten 78 in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final to help defeat Sri Lanka, and repeating the feat with an unbeaten 85 in the 2016 final against England, becoming the only player in history to be named Man of the Match in two T20 World Cup finals. He was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2013 and West Indies Cricketer of the Year in 2016. Samuels retired from international cricket in October 2018 after an 18-year career, having also played extensively in Twenty20 franchise leagues around the world, including the IPL, Big Bash, and Pakistan Super League.
