Laura Davies was born on 5 October 1963 in Coventry, England, and developed into one of the most powerful and prolific winners in the history of women's golf, turning professional in 1985 and going on to win over 80 tournaments worldwide across more than five decades of competition. Davies won four major championships, including the U.S. Women's Open in 1987 as just her second season as a professional, and became renowned for her exceptional length off the tee at a time when few women golfers could match her power. Davies was the first British woman to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, in 1999, and has represented Europe extensively in the Solheim Cup, both as a player and later as a vice-captain, helping to establish the competition's prominence in women's golf. Davies has continued competing well into her fifties and sixties on the Legends Tour, and remains widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in British women's golf history, having done as much as any player to raise the profile of the women's game in Europe.
