Kenny Anderson was born in Queens, New York in 1970 and was one of the most recruited point guards in the nation. He chose Georgia Tech and in two seasons averaged 20.7 points and 8.4 assists per game — among the highest combined averages in ACC history. He won the ACC Freshman of the Year in 1990 and ACC Player of the Year in 1991. He was a two-time All-American. He led Georgia Tech to the 1990 Final Four in his freshman year. New Jersey Nets selected him second overall in the 1991 NBA Draft — ahead of Larry Johnson and Dikembe Mutombo in the same class. His NBA career produced strong production — he averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 assists for the Nets in his best season — without ever reaching the superstardom that his college brilliance had suggested was inevitable.
