Five consecutive Olympic medals — the most by any British female Olympic athlete.
Katherine Jane Grainger was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1975. She won five consecutive Olympic medals (one gold, four silver) across five Games from Sydney 2000 to Rio 2016 — the most by any British female Olympic athlete. She won the double sculls gold with Anna Watkins at London 2012 in a world record time. She completed a PhD in criminology while competing at the Olympic level. She was appointed CBE in 2013 and became chair of UK Sport in 2017. She is one of British sport's most respected figures.
