Julie Seymour was born on 29 March 1971 and became one of New Zealand's most enduring midcourters, representing the Silver Ferns across two distinct eras of the national programme. Capable at centre, wing defence and wing attack, she played 89 Tests for New Zealand and captained the side during two separate spells over the course of her career. Seymour's international honours span three World Championships — bronze in 1995, silver in 1999 (where she was named Player of the Tournament) and a further silver in 2007 — plus Commonwealth Games silver medals in both 1998 and 2002. Her standout individual achievement came at the 1999 World Championship in Christchurch, where her performances across the tournament were recognised as the finest of any player at the event. She was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2003 for her services to netball, capping a career that saw her recognised as one of the most respected leaders in Silver Ferns history.
