Jan Maciej Błachowicz was born on 24 February 1983 in Cieszyn, Poland, and turned professional in mixed martial arts in 2007, becoming the KSW Light Heavyweight Champion in Poland's premier domestic promotion before signing with the UFC. Błachowicz developed into one of the most well-rounded light heavyweights in UFC history, training at Warsaw's Berkut WCA Fight Team and combining reliable boxing with a black belt-level ground game to compete at the top of the division for well over a decade. Błachowicz won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in September 2020, defeating Dominick Reyes, and became the second Polish fighter ever to win a UFC title, after Joanna Jędrzejczyk, and the first male Polish champion in the promotion's history. Błachowicz lost his title to Glover Teixeira in 2021, but has continued competing at the top level of the light heavyweight division well into his forties, remaining one of the most respected and consistently ranked veterans in UFC history.
