Jakob Ingebrigtsen

Olympic champion at 1500m and 5000m, multiple record holder.

Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen was born on 19 September 2000 in Sandnes, Norway, the youngest of three brothers who all became elite middle-distance runners, joining a track club at seven and being coached by his father, Gjert, alongside older brothers Henrik and Filip. Ingebrigtsen made history at just 17, becoming the first person born in 2000 or later to win a European athletics title, defeating both of his older brothers to win the 1500m at the 2018 European Championships before adding the 5000m the following day, a double never before achieved at the championships. Ingebrigtsen won Olympic gold in the 1500m at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, becoming the youngest Olympic champion in the event's history at 20, and delivered a further gold in the 5000m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, having become a two-time world champion in that event in 2022 and 2023. Ingebrigtsen split from his father as coach in 2022 and has continued to train independently, holding world records across the 1500m, mile, 2000m, and 3000m, and remains one of the most versatile and dominant middle-distance runners of his generation.
