The Professor — four consecutive Cy Young Awards through precision rather than power.
Gregory Alan Maddux was born in San Angelo, Texas in 1966. He won four consecutive Cy Young Awards from 1992 to 1995 — the only pitcher to achieve this. His pitching style — exceptional command, changing speeds and locating pitches to millimetre precision — made him the most analytically celebrated pitcher of the era. He won 355 games. His 18 Gold Gloves are the most by any pitcher. He never relied on overpowering speed — his fastest pitch was 90 mph. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014 on the first ballot.
